Product Activation 30 days to try?
I have just bought XP Home Edition upgrade, online, and whilst it's shipping want to get things sorted like this stupid activation thing - is it true you get 30 days before you need to activate it and during that time can you move it between computers?
I am inititally setting it up on this ME computer but may be having a bigger PC built to spec and if I do that within the 30 days and leave activation until the last minute can I take XP off this computer and move it to my new one and then activate? Or is there some code in XP that tells M$ it's been tried out on more than one machine?

You could probably do that, just don't activate it on the old PC. But from my understanding, M$ is pretty good about giving new activation codes if you explain to them that you bought a new PC.
Just make sure that you are NOT getting an OEM version of XP. I understand that they are NOT so good about giving new codes out because the OEM version is supposed to be tied up to one specific configuration and NO EXCEPTIONS. I could be wrong on this though.
Anyone have any additional input on this?

You won't have a problem. You can activate it on the old computer and when you get your new computer, just phone in and tell them you removed it from the old one and are placing it on the new computer.
I had this very thing done and it was not a problem at all.
Have fun with it.

Thanks guys and I am looking forward to receiving my copy of XP and am very relieved to know it won't be tied to this computer. I want to see how it runs on here before I decide about a new one.
