Cloning a Win2k hard drive.
Anyone know a program to clone a Win2k hard drive
that works? My intent is simply to replace my
current drive with a newer, bigger , faster one.
Yesterday I threw another program on the trash
heap that was supposed to do the job, Instant
Recovery by NoraStor. Just simply froze everything
up during the recon phase.
I'd prefer not making an image, just straight
cloning as XCopy was able to do with Win98 using
the appropriate switches.
Thanks.

I believe the new Drive Image Pro works from within windows you might try looking up info on that product.
Opps.. just looked the addy up whilst posting they have changed its name
"PowerQuest is no longer offering Drive Image Pro. This product has been replaced by DeployCenter, a component of the PowerDeploy Suite."

Looked up the Powerquest site, thanks. Seems they
want the office business, $276 for a ten-license.
I had tried their Drive Copy and had a problem.
I hate to be reduced to trying Norton products as
the rest of their stuff turns computers into shambles. Makes for a lot of nice service calls,
though.

Whatever else you may think of other Norton Products, Ghost, used correctly is a very powerful and stable package. The support is good and their knowledge base has many tutorials on exactly how to use it.
Nero Burning Rom has a backup facility that might be what you are looking for - and if you do not want to burn to cdr/cdrw you could make iso's and then use Daemon Tools to read the iso's directly.

Hmmm. I have Nero Burning and never had a thought
about what else it can do. I'll check that out
today. My problem with companies is if they
produce some bad products along the line, I have
trouble convincing myself they might have a
good one.

Found a very promising new cloning program. Nice
interface and the folks who wrote it say all the
right stuff. Too bad the IBM I thought I had
recovered went south once again and now resides
in a dumpster. So, new hard drive required before
I can try the new program.

Didn't want to throw one out there until I was
certain it worked, but here tis"
Drive Wizard at <a href="http://www.compuapps.com" target="_blank">www.compuapps.com</a>
Free 30 day trial. Says it will handle any
Windows operating system. I am almost tempted
to hit Staples for a new (sale on) drive just
to see if it works today. If you have a drive
around and try it pls. post your results.

Nice app,but I notice it only supports Fat16/32 consideration might be given to using the Drive Wizard software from the same site on 30 day trial.
<a href="http://www.compuapps.com/Download/DriveWizardEval/drivewiz.htm" target="_blank">http://www.compuapps.com/Download/DriveWizardEval/drivewiz.htm</a> at $29.95 for registration.

caution archer ,,read carefully and the 30day trial stops @ 30days and your cloned drive is dead untill u pay them ??
the other item on that page "swiss army knives" i would d/load with caution ,,if any "non techs" are using the machine ,,,it creates an icon on the desktop ,,and upon opening gives direct access to formating/partitioning drives on the fly from windoze ,,,it would be "VERY" easy for an inquisitive person to flatten your 10 year mp3 collection..
just my thoughts ,,,,

Yes I had made note of that detail but if it does all as stated on the box,at the price it is very well priced against the competition. The only other drawback I noticed is whilst it can be reinstalled mutiple times is its tied to only one PC.
