Post Looking for older hard disks

    Hi all,
    My problem is this...
Our company uses "oldish" unix based print servers, these have a 4 disk array using ultra wide scsi disks, 4.3 gb and with a disk speed of 7200 rpm. Now these are starting to fail, and we need to get replacement hard disks. The company who can get these for us charges us £700 for each one. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> We have 20 of these print servers around the company, which is 80 hard disks! What I need to know is does anyone know where I can get any of these older type of disks, new or unused, preferably on-line, and yes, I've tried e-bay with little success.

    Thanks in advance <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

Sorry, should have mentioned that drives MUST be 4.3 GB. Try getting one of those from any normal computer store. We've tried buying 18GB drives and formatting the first 4.3 GB only, no joy.
    Thanks anyway

any particular reason why they must be 4.3??

also raid works on the smallest drive on the chain right? so try 1 boot 4.3 and a 18on the second and raid it, see what happens...

Sorry about the name! It's Gary too
Tried the site suggested but no joy, thanks anyway. The way the software on the system disk works is that it has to have 4 identical and balanced hard disks in an array. The system disk can be any size, but the array disks have to be 4.3GB. Four 18GB disks with only a 4.3GB partition would be fine, but it "should" cost less to buy the smaller disks. Saying that, it's harder to get the smaller disks so in the long run it's going to cost less for me to search all week and just buy a shedload of large disks!

Yeah, is it a limitation of the software or the hardware??

Thanks for that geeksrus, that site looks good. It doesn't matter that it's a US site, as long as the postal system works!! I will try to order some on Monday and see how we get on with what they can supply us.

Many Thanks to everyone who replied, and if anyone knows anymore sites please post them.

There is one international company called "NTT systems" what does selling brand new (not used!)SCSI drives (these drives were stored somethere in Europe as hot-swap replacement for high-end servers).
And there are few branches - so far as I know, in USA, in Poland, and in Ukraine...
But unfortunately, I don't know about their location/URL (exept for Ukrainian branch).
    There is price-list (in USD): <a href="http://www.ntt.kiev.ua/new/new_march3.htm" target="_blank">http://www.ntt.kiev.ua/new/new_march3.htm</a>
