    Question Hitachi HD Outage

I have an Hitachi DK225A-21 hard drive that came with my Micron XPE laptop. I am able to fdisk it, but it will not let me format it. I keep getting an invalid drive response, although the XPE does recognize it in the CMOS. Any help is most appreciated. Tks.

Firstly, check that the BIOS is properly recognising your HDD. Also, try a new boot disk with a fresh copy of format. You may also want to check with the manufacturers of both the HDD and the laptop to see if this is a known problem. If none of this works, your HDD is faulty.

When you fdisked , did you set the partition as active ? If you did , and it won't format , try clearing the drive with a utility such as Wipe ( free download , see Windrivers utilities) , then retry fdisk and format. You should also check manufactuers webbsite to see if they have any hard drive utilities .
