VIA 686B IDE ultra dma win2k drivers problem
Ive had I very strange problem with VIA IDE ultra dma win2k drivers. Ive had the problem with VIA 686B based mb's gigabyte GA-6VXC7 and abit VH6-II
If you load the UDMA drivers with one set of IDE devices,no problem i.e. CDrom, Int zippy etc
If you change one of the devices or indeed start up your pc without the device's that were installed at the time you install the UDMA drivers win2k will fall over, You get a nasty blue screen of death on startup.
Is there any fix once this error happens???

Yes, don't install the IDE driver from VIA 4-in-1 service packs lower than 4.29v. This is a well documented error which has been fixed in later releases of the IDE driver. If you only want the IDE driver then Via IDE driver version 3.11 works fine with Win2k.
