Post Computer wont find hard drive

Hello. I recently updated to windows 2k on my compaq presario 900mhz, 128 ram computer. And none of my games would work on win 2k (beacuse i changed to nfts) so i treid to format my hard drive, and after a couple hours of finding a way to do it (win 2k had no restart in msdos, and i kept getting errors) i got it formatted, and i installed windows 98. I have 2 hard drives in my computer, a 2gb, and a 35gb hard drive. It wont find my 35gb hard drive. Im not sure who makes it, and im not sure how to find out. i would appreciate all the help i can get. thanx.

Make sure that the BIOS is seeing the drive.
If so, then make it the primary master and use a startup disk to fdisk and format it.

If the BIOS doesn't see it. Then more serious problems could exist, (ie bad drive or the like)
Would you like fries with that?

    Question

I am just curious. What kind of hard drive is it? I am not to familiar with "35 gig" hard drives. Where did you get it from?
    Thats easy, PEZ.....Cherry flavored PEZ!

One thing about Compaq's... they really like to use the CS jumpers. (Cable select) I had the jumpers on 2 hard drives at Master and Slave, and the system would see them, until I change them to CS...
    Hope this helps... Good Luck!

Make sure the bios is set to auto for your hard drives. Also, in Win2K, for new hard drives sometimes you have to to to Computer Management (accessible from Control Panel -> Administrative Tools) to import foreign disks. Hope that helps!

Okay, I'm gonna keep this thread alive. It's a long story, hope you've plenty of coffee. I'm running an AMD K7, 700 MHz, 256meg RAM with Windows ME.

The other night, I installed a DVD Drive, but due to Windows ME problems (believe I had some really corrupted files), it wouldn't detect the new hardware...froze up.

When going back to the original configuration, again, Windows ME froze up and wouldn't detect the hardware.

Soooo....I said, well, I won't repeat what I said here, trust me it wasn't very nice. So I ended up formatting the drive. Before doing so, I opened up the box, and made absolutely certain that jumpers and cables were absolutely correct. Okay, I goofed up one, but that was easily fixed.

Since I'm running a 30gig WD hard drive. I installed the WD Data Lifeguard, and let it do all the work. I let it format, scan, and I partitioned the drive into 3 - 10gig, FAT32 partitions. I also installed a second WD hard drive, and again, let WD Data Life Guard do all the work.

I checked the BIOS, and it recognizes both drives. The 30gig as being the Primary Master, and the 10gig as being the Primary Slave. It even recognized the DVD Drive as being a DVD Drive, as the Secondary Master, and my CD Burner as the Seconary Slave.

    Cool so far.

I proceeded to load Windows onto the drive. No problem, the installation went smoothly, and only one driver problem in "Device Manager" which is nothing more than a motherboard driver that I hadn't installed yet.

WHOA!!!...Now wait a doggone minute.....Windows ME recognizes the 30gig HDD, the 3 partitions. But where in the heck did the 10gig go??

And that remains my dilemma. Do I have to make threats of harm to my computer to get it to recognize the second HDD? Get on my knees and beg? Offer it my first born? No problem there, it can have her. hehe

Any ideas? I have bald spots on my head now, where I used to have a full head of hair, and thats not bad for a guy 40 years of age.

I really am trying to understand your point of view, but I can't seem to stick my head that far up my A$$
