Weird issue with DUN connection in XP Pro
MMkay, this one has me puzzled.
I have a system here with three network connections: Two dialup and one LAN.
The two dialup connections are to a local ISP and a local business respectively.
Occasionally, when one of the dialup connections is disconnected, either by the user or due to a link failure, neither will work properly until the system is rebooted.
By "not work properly" I mean that they will dial up, authenticate and connect, but no data transfer occurs across them. If you dial the ISP and try to access the web, you get DNS errors. You are unable to access any remote servers whatsoever, be they telnet, SMTP, NNTP etc.
When one such fault occurred while I was investigating this issue, I checked Task Manager. Sure enough, the ISP connection was showing as "Not Operational", even though it was disconnected and should, therefore, not be listed in Task Manager at all.
As I said, a reboot seems to clear this fault temporarily, but it still recurrs regularly. Changing the system's modem has had no effect.
Any ideas?

I get that occasionally in 2k as well, drives me nuts... but I haven't found a cure either
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."
