IDE1 &IDE2 configuration?????????
Hi, my config. is as follows:
IDE1: master=20Gb HDisk - slave=4Gb HDisk
IDE2: master=CD-writer - slave=CD-rom
My problem is: de CD-writer is not recognised. I also swapped once Cd-writer with CD-rom, same result Cd-writer not recognised.
But if i put a HDisk as master on both IDE-controllers, then CD-writer IS recognised. Why not change back then? I thought IDE-scheme above was favouritesetting, or not?????
Please help, how do i best connect these 4 items, or at least, i want to use my cd-writer again.

Sounds like a jumper issue to me - or a flakey ide cable.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

Tanx for your comments guys.
IDE cable is ok, coz when i place a HD on master an a CD on a slave, it does work.
its always when i place the 2 cdplayers on one controller.
Placing the jumpers in the right position, can not be easier done, it's explained very clear in a drawing on the devices.
But to solve this problem very quick, if i place a HD(on master)+ a cd-player(on slave) on each IDE controller, it works fine. But is this setup ok for the max. performance of the devices/pc, tell me please which configuration/setup/connection is the best (i have 2 HD, 1 CDrom, 1CDwriter) ???????

depends on the speed of the devices, I have my ATA100 devices on one channel and my ata66 / 33 devices on the slave and that works for me HDD + DVD / HDD +CDRW i dont see you haveing any problems like that, besides if your burning from disc to disc, its better to have the roms on seperate channels in my experience.

my advise would be to go onto the drive manufactures site, find out the drive speeds and mark them accordingly, then configure them fastest to slowest.

So, as i understand you correctly, the fastest device must be on 'master' and the slow one on 'slave'???

Are you using only master/slave jumpers or cable select to assign? Maybe the writer has cable select on. I find it best to have hard drives set to master if possible.

Cable select is evil.....

OK say for instance you have an ATA100 HDD, ATA33 CDROM, ATA66 HDD and an ATA66 CDRW, I would put
ATA100, ATA66 on primary (master / slave)
ATA66, ATA33 on secondard (master / slave)
make sure you dont use cable select, too much agony, but as I said, the config that worked for you is probably the best config for cd burning.
