Lightbulb How do I reset the toolbars in IE?

    Hey guys,

How do you reset the toolbars to default in Internet Explorer?

Reinstalling doesn't do it, neither does settings to IE defaults.

I work for an ISP and people seem to drag and minimize their toolbars beyond recovery.

What is the easiest way to make the toolbars come back to the default configuration?

    Thank-you

    JL

Have you tried the view/toolbars configurator at the top of IE?..although some custom versions of IE..like from specific isps' or sometimes from specific homepage or other program downloads can mess them up beyond belief..anyway, make sure you have the lock toolbar option unchecked and then check the ones you want..there is a custom option as well.

I would try this (always worked for me)

    1. uninstall IE
    2. open regedit and delete these keys:

    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings

    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings

    3. reboot
    4. reinstall IE

    Hope it helps

    Hey thanks for the suggestions.

I was hopnig something really simple.

I knew there was some trick with the registry but we aren't allowed to walk custoemrs through regedit. Too many problems can arise and I'm sure you would agree to that.

Tech: Delete the key inside to rott of hkeylocalmachine

Customer: What?? Delete hkeylocalmachine. Ok thats done.

    Ahhh!!!!

I was hoping a trick of the trade, but I think registry is the only way too....

    thanks.

    well here's a trick then...

You can install IE (version specific and O/S specific) on a fresh computer where's it's working fine then export those keys to *.reg files

    Example :

    Internet Explorer 5.5 sp2 for windows 98SE.reg
Internet Explorer 6 for Windows 2000.reg

    etc...

then when a customer complains you can send them those reg files and he can merge them.

after a reboot it should all go back to the defaults

    That should do the trick.

    hope it helps
