Loading Win 2000
When trying to load Win 2000 pro the computer hangs on the install. This happens on the driver.cab file at 13%. Im using a asus (a7a133) motherboard with amd duron 1ghz 128megs of ram. I can load Winnt 4.0 fine with no problems, anyone have any ideas of why this might happen?

Have you tried a different CD, or tried using that CD on another machine? We can probably assume the drive is good, since you can install NT just fine. If you're sure the CD is good, see if you can swap RAM with another machine.

Go through the bios and disable ANYTHING that makes mention of caching or shadowing.
after your've thown sp2 (or 3) in you can turn it all back on again.
Seems to be a problem with the install proccess and AMD motherboards (or MB that use AMD processors)
All you intel freaks can just bite my shiney metal @$$. We know AMD is better.

I'm assuming that you already have the latest BIOS for your motherboard ...
Win2k is Plug and Play and will use the ACPI interface if your computer supports it. It might hang because your system is not 100% compliant.
try to install using the standard PC HAL
when you start the setup press F5 a few times, you should then be able to select the "standard PC' HAL from the list.
Another idea is to try to install win2k from the HDD itself
1. partition and format your HDD to FAT32 (win98 bootdisk)
you can get on in http://www.bootdisk.com
2. copy the i386 folder from the CD-ROM to the HDD
3. boot with the floppy then go to c:\i386 and ruin winnt.exe
hope it helps
