Education, not regulation, is going to ensure that parents get to decide what kind of media their children consume. Maybe we could all work together to improve the quality of resources available to parents.
Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. -Douglas Adams
So true. In the UK it has an 18 Cert which makes it againt the law to sell it to anyone under 18.
Points they missed were the fact that games (in uK dont about US) have been submitting themselves for certification for a while the ELPSA ( ithink) give guide lines of suitablility. In my view 2 things should happen
1: Parents should read the box. There is usually a reason as to why it has a certific ation and is not suitable for under 18's
2: Game shops should maybe be more responasable. If a game like GTA III is being bought then make the customer aware of its content.
Violence does affect younger children and its a proven fact but dont give the games and then complian.
MIT turns out some great people. As far as the games, I wouldn't let my kids play kingpin or soldier of fortune with all the violence and language but that's my decision and my job. People like donahue would have me put that decision in the hands of "someone who knows better." And that's what this is really about.
