kudos to my N.H. neighbors...
A company from Portsmouth,N.H. (ecora) has introduced this free download. I know some patches/fixes can cause more harm then help, but this is a handy app.
PatchMeister is a free IT management tool that automatically discovers and analyzes missing or installed patches in mission-critical Microsoft OS platforms and applications, including IE, IIS, and SQL. The software instantly generates a report on the status of patch configurations and provides the necessary information to ensure the latest versions of security patches and hotfixes are installed. Software security and consistency can be easily maintained across the enterprise with Ecora Software's PatchMeister tool.
free download here (gotta register..)
(Patchmeister Pro is due out this fall, a version that works across platforms.)

I believe that MS also released a similar program, that obviously worked for their own program. It also helped give reccomendations on basic security holes, such as removing the guest account if not in use, checking password complexity, ect...
