Outlook / Outlook Express Attachment Security

We are beginning to get alot of enquires about this in the chatroom.

Outlook and Outlook Express will now actively block attachments with certain file extensions.

Outlook and Outlook Express handle it differently - of course

The easy way around this is for everyone to zip their files before sending... if not

This is how outlook express handles it

For help with Outlook, click on help and type in unsafe attachments.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

    From Slipstick website.

Offers reg hacks and com add-ins to get round the "problem".

As always, ensure the client knows (and agrees to you doing so) that you are effectively removing "security" features put in place by MS to safeguard their systems, otherwise you could end up with some annoyed customers trying to blame you for their own stupidity when they open up that .exe they got from Uncle Joe, etc.

Honest opinion is that this should be kept for techs and you set up a seperate catch all mailbox where people can send emails with attachments to your clients. You can then administer this centrally and distribute as necessary, takes it out of the hands of the users.

What stupid hands they can be at times!
