Update on Job Searching
I had an interview last Monday evening which is to be followed by a second one on Friday morning with the "big boss".
To say that things went well would be an understatement.
But I'm debating whether or not this is a good move for me.
Here's the deal:
This technical position is with a firm with offices across Canada, but local branches are operated almost like a franchise. They've been pretty much inactive for the last 3 years in my home town and the new ownership is now looking to expand, smoke the competition and pretty much take over the land. I like that. I love a challenge.
My duties (as the only tech onboard for now) would vary greatly, supporting extablished customers with their networks, VPNs and whatnots, while also doing hard disk imaging and troubleshooting in general. Most of this would be done "on the road".
Did I mention this office is about a 5 min. walk from my place? I currently commute close to 3 hours a day for a job thta I wasn't hired for in a company that is so low on funds they've cut back on the coffee machines.
Seems like I just made up my own mind...

Did my second interview this morning.
Here's the lowdown:
The company is interesting and the challenges are there. In a nutshell, there's only one problem I can see.
Money.
When I told them how much I was curently making, the reply was along the lines of "there's a wide margin of difference with what we're ready to offer".
So what do you guys think - should I press on for what I consider is fair market value, or take a cut and enjoy the job's other perks?

This is getting interesting.
I got another reply for a job I applied for last weekend.
Not local, but close enough.
Supporting, training and maintaining a pool of PCs and servers for about 100 users. Don't know how much they're ready to offer though...

That's an excellent point, and one which I have debated with my wife this evening.
But the fact remains that if we can't make ends meet with what they're proposing (I'll find out Saturday morning), then there's no point, is there?
I mean, I could live without the satellite dish (wife won it in a McDonald's contest, of all things!), but give up ADSL?!
I'll let you know how it pans out. I've got some figures I want to bounce off the head boss (owns 5 branches).
