USB's Not Working W/Win 2000 PE
My computer was acting very strange so I decided to do a house cleaning and start over by cleaning the hard drives and installing everything again. (One of those 1 every few years kinda things). My problem is that the USB ports were not working at all before and after doing a new install they are still not working. I have downloaded the drivers for the MBoard and that was no help. What should I try?

Are the usb ports enabled in bios? What motherboard is this?
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

In the BIOS you should set On-chip USB to yes. Further you can try setting PNP OS to yes in the BIOS if it is not already set.

W2K IS a PNP OS and I have done it before and it works. Kinda risky tho.

Follow up on Win2K issue
Going home for lunch and will check the Bios. Don't know what the PNP stands for and why is it risky?
Thanks for the help on this! Great site.

Got the latest 4-in-1's on? (The one's from via, not the ones from ABIT).
I'm in charge and I say we blow it up

USB problem continued
I had the drivers from ABIT in and they did not work. Used the 4in1 as well as the USB driver file.
I then put in standard USB drivers and they didn't work either. I will try the others. Checked the Bios and everything is set up correctly.
Open for suggestion!!

Still no work
Did the Win2k service pak 3 as well. No USB devices will work and Ive tried eveything I know. System only has 128k of Ram. Could this be an issue? Rest of system works fine but running out of things to try. I really appreciate the help that you guys give here. There are a lot of places to look but none as helpful as this!!!

Oh one more thing
System will see new hardware when I plug in a USB device. But after that nothing will work. It's that way for USB mouse and HP Photosmart 130.

Have you flashed your bios?
The RAM should be fine at 128MB
After you plug in the USB device, see if you can see it in device manager, it might need drivers.
Also, if the new device isn't present, in device manager go to the properties on the USB Root Hub/Power, and see if they are listed there.
Seems to me the USB Ports are working if you can plug something in and it detects it.

Did that!
Well, when it detects the device, it shows up in device manager but with an yellow exclamation point. I have tried to update the driver and it still wont work. Tried about 5 times still no.
Haven't flashed the BIOS

Rest the table!?!
Hi,
I don't remember where I saw this, but I had the same problem with my USB device in Win2000Pro see this link . I found some article that said to change the timing of the table or something like that, in the BIOS. maybe someone else knows of the article and can post it. Also if it is a SIS board, I have seen where you need to disable the USB support for DOS.
