Avoid Aopen CDRW's
Just a heads up about Aopen CDRW's.
Avoid them like the plaque. We have only had luck with the 24x10x32x. The 12x and the 40x are pure garbage. Several have lost their ability to burn within 30 days. The RMA service is great, but the product you get back is just as crappy as what you send in.
I plan to use these forums to let other builders know about some of the garbage out there on the market, like Western Digital.
Have a Grate day.

That'll be a long list
Remember though these things come in batches, I sent 30 plextors back in one go, once! So just exactly what is your gripe...?

I personally avoid AOpen like the plague, anything with their name on it, not just CDRWs...
Those who do not know, are lost...

Asus and Acer are on my list, along with Aopen...They don't appear to have been validated with VIA mainboard chipsets(ie don't work properly) and have had major reliability problems with all systems I've used them with.
LG are my preferred brand at the moment. No problems in 6 months of usage(50+ running fine and no returns).
To prove something, one must first try to disprove it.

Aopen Cd-rw5232
I totally agree about what you say about the AOPEN drives.
I bought one in September and have just found certain problems like not burning on a CD-RW 12X only does it at 4x.
I also found that they don't erase the discs properly and hang so you need to reboot to finish the process.
And finally when I put any CD in the drive a strange noise would be heard from the speakers, when I reinstalled my old TEAC 8x burner the noise disappeared and all the above problems too, so yes, avoid AOPEN.
The firmware for this drive is up to date.
I will be returning it to Silicon as soon as possible
