Barcoding & inventory control

I'm looking for a way to implement some kind of inventory control. I would like to label everything in the stock room with a barcode and use a wireless device to scan the barcode each time an item is removed from the shelf. Any recommendations for inventory control software? Also, any recommendations for the wireless device to scan the barcodes?

to add to the above question:

I run an off licence , with scan facility (EPOS) ,,,,but a lot of goods are packed as "multibuys" ,,,,i need a prog (pref freeware~) that can print out "random" barcodes ,,,,in order to to prog the till ,,,,ie 1x miller lite (no barcode) = 79p ,,,,till will auto-calculate 24x (ie case of) ,,,,,intended application to put those "cards" in plastic (marked up) on a key fob next to the till.....

tried "tucows" etc ,,,,can,t seem to find any prog sutable.

idealy to be printed 6x6 (or what eve)r in word????


any thoughts lads ?????

Looks like the Symbol 1500 scanner is the answer.
