Server naming convention
Hi All,
It's hard to know where to post this one, so my thinking is that most of the people with a good sense of humour come here!!
We are completely changing the naming convention of our servers where I work, and are looking for something original, slightly humorous or at least something easily rememberable, (is that a word?). We currently have about 15 servers of differing levels of importance, and the naming convention is currently based on the x-files, I.E. mulder, scully etc. I hate this, and am desperate for some decent suggestions.
Suggestions from work so far include...
star trek, (original version), spock, kirk, uhura etc. main server would be enterprise!!
Dads Army, (british thing), pike etc. main server would be mannering
Curries, tika, fawl, poppadom etc. main server would be jalfrezi
You get the idea?
So far none capture the imagination so any sugestions would be more than welcome.
(and yes, we have a good sense of humour here and can get away with it)

The Simpson would provide what you're looking 4.
(so far, I'v seen 4 networks based on that)
I would not recommand the Osbourne, for obvious reasons.

You could always use Windriver usernames:
Gollo, ( ) DocPC, Ruslan, and as the DC you could put either Windrivers or NooNoo

Did a job installing a couple of server at a place that used the names of the planets, we were installing their 9th and 10th. 9 was easy - pluto. We called the 10th Mickey

What about royal familly names? Its memorable (I think that's the word you wanted...) You even get the generation thing....
HRH The Queen- Lizzie is obviously domain controller, backup DC might be Charles, and obviously any 'dead' server must of course be named Diana ....

How about Pub Names? Use your local as the DC and branch out from there... "I'm just off to reboot the Queens Head"

I have always stuck with the Greek gods and mythology. I keep the main server as Zeus and branch out from there.
here is a page I just found with a pretty good listing of them:

How about different beer brands? As I'm canadian they would be Molson, Moosehead, Keiths... Just to name a few.

So you'd call your servers things like FXSHTL? Doesn't sound easy to remember to me
(can't remember a real one at the moment. If FXSHTL is actually one, its purely by accident)
Maybe Monty Python characters? The DC could be BlackKnight

Two naming conventions.
1. StarCraft - NEXUS, ZERG, HIVE... Etc.
2. Rock Bands - Iron Maiden, Metallica, U2 Etc.
This is the coolest naming scheme I have come out with - I actually call some of my servers after bands.
