How does a Windows XP, ME cdrom boot without a boot.bin file?

I was going to make .iso images of a winxp and winme discs using Ez Cd creator 5 and write the epanded image to a cd-r. When I did it it contained all the files I could see, yet it was not a bootable cd. I noticed that on other bootable cd's there was a boot.bin (and boot.cat)file. I found I could make it work by using Winimage but the winimage made cd-r didn't have a boot.bin file on it either.
So how do windows install discs boot without this file?
    Anyone know?

Uhm, why are you making copies with an iso, just pop the damn thing in and hit copy. But that is if its for a "backup" copy.

    Arrow No boot.bin ....

There's more than one way to make a cd boot ... you can make it be a 'big floppy' too so there ain't always boot.bin like Rad says just do disk copy it oughta work ....

I recently found my Win98 cd that I use for a master was scratched.I thought that by keeping iso images I could cut down on the amount of disks I keep around and also keep a backup on the hard drive.

perhaps you're trying to slipstream SP1 into your windows XP installation as I did a couple of months ago.

here is the tutorial I used to accomplish this and make the cd bootable.

if the cd is bootable, use nero and change the recorded from your cdrw to image recorder and do a disc copy.
