CD-ROM Drive Diagnostics
I'm curious as to what program people use to test CD-Drives, if they test them at all. I've got a faulty unit here, and I'm wondering how to get the hard proof.
Hard work often pays off in the long run, but Lazyness always pays off now.

Clean it
Shove it in another known good machine
Run sisoftsandra for a bench speed test.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

I just boot from a Win98 or ME startup disk, with CDROM support. If I can't see the CD from there, it's a goner. Rules out any Windows problems.
Edit: after seeing NooNoo's post, I usually work from home, so I do this in my box, with known good cables and IDE controller
