I quit my job in March and dedicated myself to searching for a new one full time.
Found one in september, but was laid off 2 weeks later (yes, laid off, company lost contracts and couldn't afford me). that was for the better, because in the middle of november (after i was in major depression) I found this job.. so i guess you could say march through november.
good luck.

ok so it's not really a poll,
Since I have had the verbal offer come in on Friday I have suddenly turned into Bob F@$#%!G Vila.
Saturday, strip wallpaper from bedroom
Sunday paint basement
Monday continue stripping wallpaper
Tuesday: finish painting basement again
Wednesday: did nothing told wife otherwise (ok so i played 5 hours of Medal of Honor and stirred the pot in the forum...)
Today: actually finish wallpaper stripping and prepping walls
And for Friday yep you guessed it:
WALLPAPERING!!!
so sorry for the confusion on the poll thing but just more of a guestion in general

I was let go of my steady job in Nov of 2000. I took crappy contract work to help with tax season software customer service from Jan 2001 to March 2001. May 2001 to June 2001, I got a job teaching at a computer school, but they wanted me to learn and teach MS Office products. I loved to teach the tech stuff, but when it came to MS Office I found it tough to teach about something that I had no interest in, and no real passion. Besides, I really couldn't justify working more than 40 hours a week (if you ever have been or have ever known a teacher, you know that teaching is way more than 40 hours a week) working at $12/hour, while the salesguys are making 60-80K a year off of me and my fellow teachers. So I left that. I have been at my current contract job for 15 months now. It is boring as hell, and It is in a field that I have absolutely no interest in, but it pays the bills. I have done way more works for less money at other places. So It is ok I guess whan all things are considered. But since my last real job in 2000, I have still yet to find a steady job.

At my last job, when I put in my 2 weeks notice, they said money was tight, and could I make it 1 week instead. On the last day I was there (a Thursday), I got an appointment for an interiew with my current job on Friday, and started Monday. Of course, now I'm looking for another job again, because bills have grown much more than pay has.

Even if I'm at a job I like, I always keep my "feelers" out and eyes open in case I need to go to plan B.
I've always been able to jump right into something, at least in the interim until I get a "real" job again. A lot of it depends on who you know and that you don't burn any bridges.
Most time I've ever been unemployed was about a month.

how long
In a way it was a blessing. His job was so stressfull and management had no clue how to run. We knew it was going to happen and we were hoping he'd find something before he got fired. When one door closes another one opens..yada yada
