    Frozen Laptop...

O.K., I have a user that lives in New Jersey and as most of us know. It's hella-cold right now. Well, he left his laptop in his car overnight and today when he tried to get the sucker going he got the following message:

    STOP 0X0000006B (0XC0000006,0X00000002,0X00000000,0X00000000)
    Process 1 Initiation Failed

Could something of frozen and when he tried to power it up, may have shorted something out?

    Any ideas?

Probably fried something. Condensation inside the lappy melted when he turned it on.

Should always leave it set a room temperature for a few hours before powering it on.

Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

Well, we don't use GoBack or XP (we use 2000). I'm thinking that something may have fried when he turned the power on without letting the lappie "thaw out".

Edit: NooNoo, how did you find that? I searched the KB and I couldn't find anything!!!

Did he tried to start it when it was still cold ?

If so, TURN IT OFF, wait till it reach room temp and try again.

    It may be all right.

Very often, electronics components will not work at our winter temps.

I've seen my share of that kind of probl.

Yeah, it's been about two hours and he still gets the error. I told him to wrap the laptop in his coat and to place it near a heat vent for a few minutes, we'll see if that helps...and the idiots at Dell can't do much because "seeing as how the laptop was shipped with Windows 98 and has been upgraded to 2000" they can't help us unless we reinstall 98...how dumb is that?!?!?!

I don't use the mskb search until I have narrowed down the successful keywords

Is there any device I can purchase so I can take out the harddrive from this laptop and access it's data on another machine?
