    Problem with LG Burner

    hey..
    I have a LG CD Burner x32.
my problem is that i can't burn is speeds higher that x8...

at x8 everything is fine.at higher speeds the burn process starts but the drive's buffer memory is not used and nothing happens...it just gets stuck at 3% and it does not even write to the disk (i know because later i used the same disk for a x8 burn, and it was ok)

i tried differen media for burning, using the latest nero and windows XP.

(i was able to burn at x32 when i fisrt bought the burner which was not long ago)

    what can i do ???

CDRW's usually record as slower speeds, CDR usually ok long as you buy CDR's that accept higher speeds.

I'm using that same burner (mostly with Nero) unde WinXP and have never seen any situation similar to the one described here.

Is the burner on it's own IDE channel or is it connected to the same cable as the hard drive containing the buffer?

    I'm wondering about that too.

There shouldn't be a problem if both drives are correctly jumpered as master and slave, like on my own system (16x LG DVD as slave on the burner's channel), but...

What about your hard drive - what state is it in? Is it ATA133, 100 or less? Is it fragmented? How is it formatted (FAT32 or NTFS)?

Try using XP's native CD burning and see if you can write at full speed. One way or the other that should tell you whether Nero or the drive itself is the problem.

Try disconnecting the DVD and repeat the exercise.
    Also Try the DVD as
Master and the CDRW as Slave
Then try it with a 80 pin ribbon.

Generally one of these solves the problem but not always.

Check the nero cache size and turn off xp native burning and reboot.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

i just tried to burn a divx movie on a GPT media at x32 and it burned with no problems....

Should i just stick to medias that work with my burner or maybe i should get it checked out ??

IF your using single writing Media that excepts that speed it should work be sure the Media Disk accept x32

If you use CD rewiter disks even if there x32 its been my experiance that the rewriter speeds are slower.
