Oh, you mean they aren't supposed to be that colour?

My fans get like that in a month! It's gonna get worse soon, will be having a nice new carpet just outside the office door.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

if i would have seen this thread last week i could have posted a few doozies. a few years ago i built a celeron machine, he came back in last week and said the machine was dead, it wouldn't boot anymore. i open the case and the thing is so caked with dirt, dust and dog hair that not only was the cpu fan stopped up but dirt and dust was caked in between all the fins in the cpu heatsink. it took me 10 minutes to dust the damn thing out.
take care and tempt not the fates

Only 10 minutes??? I had a dual P133 server that was hiding from me over in another building...NEVER been cleaned. It took me a good 2 or 3 hours to clean that thing out. I still have dust elephants running around my office and outside the front door.

    Try Italian restaurants....

That's NOTHING compared to the nasty stuff you get in the POS business. Italian places are the worst...
The oil they use actually floats around in the air, gumming up fans and everything else....and you should see the kitchen printers

Pretty close to the restaraunts in terms of disgusting buildup of crap are the PC's in the tollbooths of the bus parking lot my company runs... Monitors last less than 10 months, PC fans last about the same before replacement.

The beige parts are *YELLOW-Brown* within 3 months and are permanantly that color, but the overall worst is the layers of thick grimy oily stick CRAP all over everything... Yucko!

I'll take a pic of the keyboard on the pc in my workshop next time I'm round my folks place. Lucky I can touch type, cause you can't see anything for oil (including the LED's).
I'm in charge and I say we blow it up
