    Ram on Asus a7v333

    SYS SPEC:
    AMD XP 1800
    ASUS A7V333 w/ onboard sound (C-Media 8738)
    256 DDR pc2100 ram
    Nvidia g4 ti4600
E-Mu asp E-Card PCI sound card
Agere Systems PCI Soft Modem 56 V.92 V.44
    80 gig WD 7200 HD
    Lite-on DVD
    Windows XP SP1

I have 256 DDR pc2100 ram. If I install a PC3200 2700or, will it work or do I need the RAM to be pc2100 (compatibility?) too?

Basically, can I “mix and match” ddr rams? Like have pc2100 with a pc2700.. or do they all need to be the same PCxxxx?

I've never had any luck mixing 266 and 333 DDR memory, perhaps you will get luckier than I and get memory that plays well with each other.

You can mix 'n' match if your motherboard lets you, you need an option in the bios to set 'memory speed', this needs to be set at the slowest speed installed....

If you haven't got that bios option some motherboards will attempt to run all main memory at the fastest speed it can find, resulting in instability.... even though logic says run at the slowest .....

I don't know of any rule of thumb for this so all I can say is try & see .... it might be ok, it might not ....

    dual channel ddr

    does the a7v-333 support dual-channel memory ?

note that im not asking will it work in dual-channel mode, rather, if it will work in non-dual channel mode ?

Yes you can mix and yes faster memory will work if its the same type module
meaning if your current memory is unbuffered then you use unbuffered, if your try to mix with error checking you will run into problems, also the faster DIMM you should locate in the later slots.

To monohouse, the a7v333 does not support dual channel mode therefore will only work with the standard data path.
