How to make drive faster?
I have a 40GB ata/100 7200RPM maxtor drive on my Asus A7A266 motherboard 1400mhz athlon and the drive is SLOW!!!
It takes up to 15 seconds to open Outlook for the first time after a reboot!
Isn't there a card or something that can make my drive faster?
Thanks

The A7A266 should already be ATA100 supported. Goto Maxtors site & check under the Downloads section for both teh ATA100 enabler & the Acoustic Management software. Disable teh Acoustic management on teh drive (it will make it very slightly noisier but nothing to worry about) but disc access will be increased slightly, & the ATA100 enabler will check & make sure teh drive is running in ATA100 mode. Also install teh LATEST IDE/Chipset drivers for teh motherboard as this is probably the most overlooked driver when putting a system together. The Microsoft supplied drivers simply don't cut the mustard for speed.
