I then tried to unistall recovery console, but I can't find it anywhere. I don't even have a boot.ini file to delete the C:\cmbcons\bootsect.dat etc. Please show me the light

Amyb!
You have to have a boot.ini. It's there. Somewhere. LOL
Try ripping it out of boot.ini, getting rid of the cmdcons directory, and running the winnt32 /cmdcons off of a different cd. It could be the cd is scratched or something!
Was the machine having problems before you installed the cmdcons?

Two guesses
enter CMD (command console) go to your boot Drive root directory -
the file is there - you can edit it by removing it's special attributes
.
another thing - maybe you have a Hidden partition - most of the "Branded" computers comes out with hidden partition that contains recovery tools and OS of somekind.
Good Luck

Look at your eventlog and see if you have errors reading the cd or any other errors that may shed some light. Just enter eventvwr from a run command.

From where did you issue the attrib command?
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

Do you mean the prompt in recovery console? The prompt in a cmd box in normal mode? in safe mode?
Is the file system fat32 or NTFS?
The problem might also be that it will not let you undo the system attribute sooo...
Attrib -h boot.ini
is all you need to be able to see the file...
then you can go for
Attrib -r boot.ini
and finally
Attrib -s boot.ini

boot.ini
I'm in "normal" mode (though this morning "I" am in abnormal mode, but we won't go into that here) . and fat32.
I will try the latter that you suggested and get back to you, thanks.

If it is fat32, you can change attributes from a 98 boot disk if it has to happen that way...

You MUST use the -s in attrib command to change any of the attributes of boot.ini.
attrib -r -s -h boot.ini will work just fine.
If you try to simply do an ATTRIB -R or -H it will give you that error of not resetting system file.
