Over Heating
I bought a AMD 2400+ OEM and cant keep the idle temp under 118 and the temp with a load reaches about 130. Is this within normal operating range?

The max die temp for a 2400tbred is 85C (185F) but it still should not be running as hot as you are right now. You said it was OEM so what heatsink are you using. Not a aluminum one I hope.

the HSF is a volcano 6cu+ on the volcano website it is rated for up to 2700+ and i just got a email from a guy at thermaltake and this is what he said.
The unit should perform 45'c when running at 7000 RPM on 2700XP
processors. Suggest you increase air flow inside the case if you have
high cpu temp.

Was this heatsink on another processor? Did you clean it with 99% alcohol and what TIM are you using?
Also I always recommend a all copper solution for anything over 2000+

yes i had the HSF on a 1500+ for about 3 months and it has a copper core. i did not use alcohol to slean it off but i did clean it with a towel. never thought that it would matter if you use alcohol but the thermal past i used is called evercool.

not the same as truly cleaning it with 99% isopropyl alcohol.
The TIM is important, it can and will hurt heat transfer.
Copper core is NOT the same as all copper. See this heatsink the SK6+

Read the comment at the bottom here about it. (see the comment about the Thermaltake Volcano 6Cu+)

I recommend Motherboard Monitor

Also make sure the alcohol you use is 99%

No problem. Good luck. Doing that should drop it a bit.
