Automatically marking messages as "read" - Outlook 2000
I am using a Win32 port of Spam Assasin that works great w/ Outlook 2000.
I have it set to automatically move messages marked as Spam to a folder called "Spam".
Problem is the messages are not marked as "read" so I get the new mail notification icon (litte yellow envelope) in the taskbar.
I would like to set a rule or property of the "Spam" folder so that all messages in it are marked as read automatically, so I don't believe I have any new mail.
Does anyone know the procedure for this, or if it is even possible.

with outlook express, there is a message filter that allows you to mark a message as read... have you checked the options in your message rules?

I believe so...I have already set a rule to move the message there, and while creating the rule, I did not see an option under "Waht do you want to do with the message?" to mark the message as read.
There is a "perform a custom action" category, but when selecting that, I get a function-less window with an empty drop down box.

I believe i saw it under the messaging rules in OE 6.. unfortunatly, i don't have outlook, so i don't know if the option is there..

how about sending it to the "deleted" items instead of "spam" folder ?
in outlook 2000 go to tools / rules wizard
select new and go from there...
i dont think there is something to mark new messages as unread, since there is a trigger for new messages that when they come it sends you a " new mail " response or shows you the " envelope" on the task bar.. but see if this will help
Assumption is the mother of all fucl< ups

I would try this link here.. they seem to share your concern.
http://www.slipstick.com/addins/gall...x.htm#markread
otherwise the direct download is
http://www.slipstick.com/files/markread.zip
It came up virus free for me.. , but always use caution when downloading

Well, the mark as read action works...but doesn;t get rid of the new mail notification icon...neither does moving the Spam automatically to the Trash as opposed to the Spam folder.
I guess I will just have to live w/ the icon.
