    Angry XP control panel applets

when trying to open any applet item within control panel the item just pops on screen, so it does open but disappears in a flash.. tried 're-installing/refreshing' xp from cd .. no joy .. frustrating as cannot change any properties ..

are you able to use them in safe mode? what system changes have you made recently? have you tried system restore to a point when they were working?
try going to start...run and typing...Control.exe Sysdm.cpl,,1 this should open the device manager just to see if you can access it by bypassing the control panel
