SCSI hard drive isn't recognized on Adaptec 29160 card.
On one of the machines that I support, I've installed an Adaptec 29160 SCSI card. It has two seperate channels with each supporting up to 15 devices. Anyway my problem is that my older Baracudda from Seagate isn't recognized (running windows 98 SE). More details on the channels: one supports LVD, the other as the manual is saying is for the rest kind of devices. The Seagate is a SCSI 2 I believe (not sure) The transfer speed is 40MB/s. Does anyone know if this specific card supports this kind of drives or there is a solution.
All SCSI users respond. :P

What chipset is your mother board?
I've found there are a lot of problems with the 29160 and the 820 chipset.
Which SCSI cable are you using?
If your drive doesn't support LVD then you should not use the LVD cable.
What SCSI ID is your drive set for?
The 29160 card will use ID 7.
Your hard drive should not be ID 7.
Is your hard drive at the end of the SCSI cable and terminated properly?
Are you running any other SCSI devices off the card?
There's more questions, but this should get you started in the right direction.

I'm using a 440BX chipset, a flat 68 pin cable that isn't LVD because I believe the hard drive is not LVD capable, it is the only hard drive connected to the card on that channel, at the end of the cable with a terminating resistor that is built in on the cable, with ID 4 (hard drive worked fine with a different SCSI card) but I don't have space for two, especially with such a big card. And yes I am running a Quantum U160 hard drive on the seperate channel by itself with an LVD cable (it is working fine). Anymore suspicions?

Try putting the jumper on the drive for termination, and using a regular 68 pin cable without the terminator on it.
