Asus A7N8X PCB 2.0
Anybody know why my Asus A7N8X PCB 2.0 MB didn't autodetect my AMD XP 2800 CPU? It read it as a 1250 or something like that. Soon as I upped the CPU External Frequency in the BIOS from it's default 100mhz to 166mhz it detected the CPU as the 2800 as it should be.
Actually I am not sure if that was the correct thing to do or not. I have a Asus A7V333-X with a XP 2400 in it and did not have this problem.
Anybody know if that was correct or is there any other settings that need to be altered as well?
-Eric

Is it the latest BIOS?
Is there a setting to Auto-Detect?
Those who do not know, are lost...

Perhaps a bios version check is in order as there seem to be two different requirements?

Well it is an older BIOS version C1003. I will try installing C1005 tonight. I will let you know what happens.
As for an Auto-Detect it is supposed to do that automatically when you turn the PC on.

Ok. I updated the Bios to C1005. Went into the BIOS and told it to Load System Defaults. It went back to detecting the CPU as a XP 1250. Soon as I set the CPU External Frequency to 166 as I had done before it detected it as a XP 2800.
Any more suggestions would be helpful. I have to give this computer to a friend on Friday.
Thanks,
Eric

Perhaps ASUS e-mail support will enlighten you as to the cause?
Maybe the core is different on that edition.

Perhaps but Asus is slow. Plus usually this support board is better than most tech support.

I had the exact same problem with an A Open board..turned out the fsb had to be set with a motherboard jumper to 133 from the default 100..this changed the default settings in the bios..and saw the processor correctly
