Exclamation Want an .iso of server 2003 ?

I'm not overly sure about the legality of this .... so if it's not okay feel free to say /edit ... but I found it & it downloads !

    Slap this in your browser

    http://download.microsoft.com/downlo.../x09-22207.iso

Microsoft seems to be leaking code again - a link at http://download.microsoft.com passed to The Register allows free access to what appears to be an ISO image of Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition. The file, x09-22207.iso, is known to have been accessible since last weekend, and as it was still available this morning we presume the link is not yet widely known of. Or perhaps cared about.
The file appears to be connected to the Windows 2003 Server eval programme. That expires after 180 days, and needs to be activated after 14. Eariler this year Microsoft also contrived a leak of a Server 2003 activation key earlier this year. Microsoft has a long history of being unable to keep a lid on direct links to this class of file, and traditionally leaks the location of service pack downloads for the convenience of geeks prior to the the official release date.
The 'register' didn't include the actual link .... but me being me ... I didn't let a minor technicality like that slow me down ....

How does one register it before the 14 days?

Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

    Ain't that the truth.

They gave over 800 NFR Enterprise editions away through Boston User Groups. I imagine they did the same elsewhere. There were no special requirements other than joining the user group for $20.00 and attending a launch vendor to receive a voucher.

(You didn't have to stay at the launch event. Just walk in to the BUG table and pick up the voucher.)

I guess this is how they're going to combat the free software movement.

Will this install without a key or is it included somewhere in the .iso?

And if not, where can I get a key to try it for 180 days?

If this is really legal/legit, can someone post how to register or PM me instructions or point us in the right direction?

THis version is the Eval version. You can register for it and recieve a free activation code from microsoft. Hust go to the microsoft server 2003 page and click download eval. Take a few minutes, but then you are up and running.

Having finally got around to trying my own suggestion ... I was just about to post the same .... a few minutes is a bit optomistic though 542Mb takes a while ! ...

However I'm still not convinced its 'exactly' the same, but when/if I find any real difference I'll let you know ... ...rumour has it that this is not a time limited evaluation copy ! ... However I think its the keys themselves which do that ... I have evaluation keys & 'real' keys so we'll see what develops ...
