go into dos utils and use the windows rawrite utility to make a bootable floppy. the image file is in img and it's named boot. this is how I always do it because the hardware I usually install on doesn't support booting from cd.

Did you burn it as an ISO or as a flat data file? Otherwise, will other bootable CDs work on this system?

Hey guys, this is my 1st post, though I've been a windrivers fan & has been my homepage since '00. Just thought it good 2 hear of other ppl using smoothwall. We've been using it 4 about 15 of our customers with networks & ADSL connections as well as our own (one client has at least 50 PC's on the network) for over a year now and it's been fantastic. It's gr8 2 see Linux breaking through into the mainstream even in our country Australia areas. Hehe the other tech's here finially listened to my harping about how cool Linux is.

    Welcome!

    Welcome to Windrivers, manny!

I love smoothwall, for the most part. I have seen it do some pretty weird stuff though, like sometimes when i use local ip's to connect to my internal webservers, or mail, I find it blocked by my smoothwall box. And I also find it annoying that I have to manually restart snort EVERYTIME i have to reboot the box.

Other than that, it is great software!

I also find it fun, because i write cgi scripts, so i can modify the gui to my needs, it being covered as open source.

gee, i do wonder when smoothwall 2.0 will be out? I can't wait.

[Edit] Smoothwall beta 5 is out now!!! [/EDIT]

SmoothWall is awesome. I know absolutely nothing about Lunux and it took less than an hour to get my first install up (DSL). The second took twenty minutes from the time I started formatting the HD until I was surfing the web.

i currently have a serious issue with my smoothwall box - it wont detect the hard drive, because the hard drive is dead.

it may be a while before i can find a small hd to install it on

chip, i burnt it correctly - see first message. as to will other cds work, well i dont know, ive not tested. it has a boot to cd option in the bios so i assume so, and i have booted using that cd drive before just not on that system.

I'd offer you a 1 GB drive, but you're in the UK maybe one of our other UK members has a surplus of OLD hardware like me and could hook you up.
