    .bin files

    I have a student in a class I teach that says he recieves his email in a .bin format, and says recently he is unable to open and/or read the mail that is sent to him? What exactly are .bin files and what are they used for? Thanks!

    .bin is a CD image file. usualy you'll find a .cue associated with it.

    .bin:

    • MacBinary Archive Format Often used on Macintosh.
    • Micrografx Designer 7 Project Image
    • SGI Powerflip
    • Linux Executable
    • TenCORE Plug-in Helper Application (TenCORE)

    There is also the possibility that .BIN files could be CD data files for burners such as CDRWin or Nero, but those can run (obviously) close to 700 Mb in size..

    I have gotten a few .bin files that were attached (forwarded) messages. But I only get this when viewing my mail with horde webmail. When I open the same message in outlook it shows as an attached message. Cheers.

    Compuserve uses bin for attachments too.

    .bin may also be associated with comliped, but unlinked code. sort of like a C++ version of vb script.

    Anyway, whatever the contents of the file, isobuster is a great tool for seeing whats inside and reading it if need be. Oh yeah, and macs do use this format also

    i just downloaded a movie and its split into two parts cd one with an file name of the.butterfly.effect.svcd.cd1.bin and the other is the same except with .cue at the end any ideas how i can open this and watch it on my comp or how i can burn this to watch on my dvd player? i tryed tp burn it in svcd in nero but it didnt recognize the file.........thatnks guys

    Uhm, that's pirating a movie. That is NOT something we will help with.
