random restarts
My computer has been randomly restarting A LOT (once every half hour at least if being used) and I have not been able to figure it out, i have even reinstalled windows XP using the restoration disk and still have the same problem. I have looked at the 'Event Logs' and here is what it says happens:
Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 bf85bdba, parameter3 f2466604, parameter4 00000000.
And also, the event that always happens right before this is a 'Save Dump' with the following message:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x1000008e (0xc0000005, 0xbf85bdba, 0xf2466604, 0x00000000). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini020304-07.dmp.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Another thing that has seemed to of been happening since this started is that programs such as Windows Media Player, Msn Messenger, Internet Explorer, always have to close because of errors. Can anyone please help?!??

Welcome to the forums
I am thinking two things, power supply and memory. I didn't see that you posted the size of your power supply. Below is a link you can go to and check if your power supply is adequate.
http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/
let us know power suply results.

Get DocMem from http://www.simmtester.com If the burn-in test runs for 10 loops without any error look into overheating and later on power supply. Also to make sure there are no other issues, check that your system is not overclocked!!! You might want to enter the BIOS setup and confirm that the memory settings are on default.

So now check to see if your power supply is 300watts or more. If its not, go get a new one.

That looks to be a brand name computer using a restore disk. What brand?
AH sorry I missed it Seanix is it. Likely it has a less then adequate power supply I agree with the others check that first. Also test the memory

No, do not go get a new PSU just yet. Let's make sure about a few things first. HEAT may very well be the issue here. Open the PC case and touch "carefully" the heat sink part of the CPU fan. Is it VERY hot or not. Do this while you are in BIOS settings. There will be a "Hardware Monitor" section which will give the temp. Let that page stay open for at least half an hour and tell us what the temp is.
Next, give us an idea about what is really going on in the system. Download and run HiJack this and post the log here. http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/
Let's see what could be causing all those program errors which a repair install won't fix. But, do you mean that you did a total system RESTORE, or just a Repair install. Big difference between the two.

That looks like a restore from the restore cd I dont think he has that option at all to repair it
Seanix is a brand much the same as compaq. All you get is a restore cd no XP cd nothing.
The ones I have worked on are allways the same, oddball motherboards and psu's. Last one I fixed the psu was tied to the case and the on/off button and you couldnt replace it without ordering a seanix which was about 3 times the regular PSU price
But heat could very well be the issue

Also, how do get to the 'Hardware Monitor' that will tell me temp? As for the type of restore, i tried all 3 options on the disk, and none of them solved the problem. And here are the results from "Hijack This":

kazaa, roxio, nero, daemon tools and real
Wonderful mix you have there.
Any chance the nero and roxio are properly licenced versions?
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

Open the left hand side of the case. The power supply should say on the side facing you what it's rating is. If it dosn't, then write down what it says and post the details.

then it may bee a little low. If it is a good quality power supply then it should be fine, but in a off the shelf system that is very doubtful. I would definatly think about picking up a 300+ watt power supply for your system. I do agree that it could very well be an overheating problem, but your power supply should definatly be on your "to upgrade" list in the very near future.
I will assume that your system reboots happen most often when doing things like playing games, so the question I have, is does it reboot if you enter the bios and leave it there overnight?
Another thought I just had, I remember a system a few weeks ago that I worken on that would reboot or shut down sometimes while working with it. It turned out to have a bad hard drive. It would be worth your while to run a scan of your drive with the mfg's diagnostice so make sure your drive is up to snuff. From the information you provided, the diagnostic program for your drive can be found here: http://www.maxtor.com/en/support/downloads/powermax.htm
