What sort of jobcard/invoicing programs do you use?

What sort of setup do you use for charging out work you have done? Do you use a written job card and then transfer to some sort of accounting package, which will print an invoice?
I am looking at what the best option would be for doing this.
Also do you give the customer some sort of receipt when you need to take their computer back to your workshop?

We hand-write our invoices, then our main office puts em into Tigerpaw. One of our guys is writing his own app using SQL and Access. If it works out, he may eventually port it to a stand-alone app....then he won't have to work for us anymore.....of course, his real-estate stuff will probably take off first. I gotta pick up some hints from this guy.

So anyway, back to the question. It seems this Tigerpaw program does way more than we use it for, and its pretty solid now...SQL backend with the latest version.

I had a look at Tiger Paw but probably to advanced for a one man show like myself.

Anyone else have some ideas?

I use this http://software-direct.us/sfd/mysoftware.jsp?s=g in the shop. It will also print blank invoices to take with you.

Me thinks quickbooks or the likes has some type of feature like this (so I've heard. no personal experiance).

I guess I should have put the name of the program. It's called MyInvoices. Think it goes for about $10 US.

We use peachtree. I've been told that quick books would do the job just fine. Our accountant says he actually prefers quick books to peachtree but we haven't moved over yet. ( don't know if we will unless we can import our peachtree records to quick books. )

Got interupted and forgot to add.... We have tried in the past to use tags that the customer would take with them but most people just lost/threw them out so we quit. One thing we had done at a previous place of employment was tell the customer that they had to pick it up themselves or authorize someone else to come and get it. That doesn't always work either though it did save us from an angry ex picking up one guys computer and making off with it!

We have two part paper forms that we fill out when the service order comes in..whether in house, onsite, or dell or gateway or bestbuy warranty..the customer gets a receipt after filling out exactly what is wrong in their own words..for cash register/invoice functions, they are transferred to quickbooks..and then when the machine is picked up/paid for the customer is given a printed quickbooks receipt and we staple the paper form to the store copy.

We were using SQL, but it didn't seem to be very stable. Eventually we switched over to a program that one of the techs here wrote himself. It's ten times better, but not for sale. :P . We use Cougar Mountain for billing, but it sucks.
