    display driver

    Hi,
I was searching online for a monitor driver and I found this site.
I formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows 98.
Every thing is working, but the display is not. When I go to setting I am able to find 2 or 16 colors only. I know my monitor had more than that before.
I went to HP’s website and downloaded the driver for this monitor, but nothing changed.
I have HP Ultra VGA 1024.
    Any suggestions?

    Welcome to Windrivers washow88.
The driver you need is for the video card/cihip inside the computer, not the monitor.
You need to go back to the HP site and download the Video Display Driver and then install it.
If you need help on this give us your computer model number, not the monitor model.
    Good luck.

    Thank you TripleRLtd,
The computer model number is IBM Personal Computer 300PL.
Even if I open my computer, I would not know where to find the video card/chip.

This link http://www-1.ibm.com/support/dlsearc...o.x=12&Go.y=12 at IBM's site has several different video drivers for your system. Unfortunately there are a few different video cards in that model and I can't say which you need.

On the front of your computer should be a tag w/ the specific model number, for example: M/T 6565-F1U. Post that number and we can determine which video card shipped w/ the computer.

    Thank you all.
I did not see the model number, but I went to the IBM web site and they detected that the number is 6862-S1U. Would that help?

That build number links to this model: IBM PC300PL
Is this in fact your model number??
    It will be there somewhere.
If it is it is an S3 Trio Video driver.
    Go here:
    http://www-1.ibm.com/support/dlsearc...77&submit.y=11
But make sure this is your model number.
You will need to download the driver for your particular Operating System.
    Win98?

I'm pretty sure that the PC300Pl had either Matrox, S3, or Savage video in them depending on the particular machine:

Yeah, that is the problem here.
Some had the Matrox and some the S3 Trio.
Probably nothing to do except open her up and check to make sure washow.
Do you still have the originall CD's that came with this PC perchance?

    Duh, should have read back.
    Anywho,
since this model came with different video cards we need to know which one you have.
If you open the case with the PC turned off and the power disconnected, you will see only one of the "cards" inside is connected to the cable coming from the monitor.
This is the card we need to know about.
You may not even have to take it out.
Look at the big "chip" on the side of this card, it will be about 1"x1" square.
It will have a name etched into it with numbers.
Use a magnifier if you need to.
It well say something like S3 Trio xxxx, or Matrox.
Doesn't look it but it may even say Number 9 with a big 9!
Let us know what you see.

    Thank you all,
It works now, I did not realize how easy it was.
It would not be that easy without all of your help.
    Thank you again.
