    Mandrake Linux LCD Notebook Setting

    Hi,
I'm a newbie in Linux OS. I already install Linux Mandrake 9.2 in my Dell Inspiron N/book but the problem is happen with tha LCD panel. The display for Linux only 7" compare than the actual size of LCD (15"). I have to move the cursor left, right, down and above to look the whole Linux. I would like to know how to configure to get the actual size of display. If I not wrong the file that I need to edit is under X11 directory.
    thanks.

sounds like you have the "expanded desktop feature on" Not sure what the right name for it is

Not to sure on mandrake (never used it) but you might beable to recondifure X. Using the "xf86config" tool from the command prompt. Note: you could mess things up if your not sure how to configure X.

All the settings for X are stored in a file called "XF86Config" this is located in "/etc/X11"

can I have you open a text editor of your choice and open this file.

    /etc/X11/XF86Config

copy and paste it in here? We might beable to edit the X file without you going into the "xf86config" tool

You have the wrong monitor selected (x11 is known to make this mistake). My guess is that your monitors native resolution is only 1024x768 (according to the driver). What type of video card does the laptop have?

Bingo. What we need to do is find out the exact vert and horz refresh rates of the monitor. I'll dig around more later. You could try running the xf86Config utility (or whatever it is for your flavor of linux) and "force" it to use 1024x768. Cheers.

at the command prompt, or out of Xwindows type

    xf86config and follow the directions.

befiore you do this, back up your XF86Config file.
also you might want to try xf86cfg I think thats the xwindows version. I dont use it.

    but hope that helps
