    Thumbs down RPC terminating unexpectedly

    Hi guys.

I have a clean install of Win2k Server Sp4. I created the Win2k CD myself and slipstreamed Sp4 into it, and installed from that CD so SP4 was installed right from the get-go.

    Here's my problem:

RPC is terminating unexpectedly with error 7031. On a clean install. Hilarious!

Seriously... all I did was do a clean install, booted it up, and RPC terminated unexpectedly. I can manually restart the service, but this is a server, and should be stable enough to friggin keep RPC running on a brand new clean install. MSKB says that this was an issue that was FIXED in SP4.

Has anyone experienced this on a clean install of Sp4? Am I trippin?

    Thanks!

Ooh you're good, Noonoo! Yes! In fact, I found it and cleaned it a few hours ago. Since then the problem hasn't come back. LOL

Now to figure out how I got msblast on a clean install... I checked all machines on network, and they're fine. All machines except my roommates... hmm...

You get it within about 3 seconds of connecting to the internet, Uncle Billy is very confus-ed on just what you need present to stop this, this refers -Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 830082 & MS03-026: Buffer Overrun in RPC May Allow Code Execution has the patch.

My slipstreamed 'standard' has sp4 & subsequent patches too

happened to me on several restores on winxp systems. I just dont connect to the net unless I either have a router in front of me or I have zonealarm install off a cd I burned it to
All of the systems were compaq's or other branded ones that had restore cd's and were on broadband. The customers were not able to restore the systems as they got msblast seconds after the initial boot to desktop and pooched the system.
