A new free spyware detector
I've become aware of a recently released spyware detector, a squared 2, there is a basic free version, I think I'll assess it out of interest:

Anyone else tried it?
There's a forum here:

where very direct contact with the developer seems to be the norm.
It came out of beta a month ago, and is the replacement for Anti-Trojan and the ANTS program.

Due to some recent experimenting, I'm thinking this may be the source of outgoing requests to contact DEVNULL.megaprovider.nl, a past spammer host. It could be benign, Dutch software, Dutch ISP, but I won't be using it unless further research clears it.

I've subsequently had the megaprovider request on a system that doesn't have a squared 2 installed, so that's not the source.
A nuisance factor is the need for a unique email address to receive the code to activate new copies of the program. It's not so straightforward to install it on systems for other people.

So, what do you now recommend Platypus? You know: before I give it a go???? Let's just call you our beta tester.

I've updated and run it several times on my own system, found nothing so that's OK I guess. The last system I had that I kept finding more rubbish on has now been nuked & re-loaded so I haven't got it to do a comparative test on.
Since a squared 2 is the successor to NooNoo's beloved Anti-Trojan, it should be OK I think.
