    I have the same motherboard as my test board at work, by the way... (without on-board video)...
    Take a look at your motherboard - model numbers should be printed between PCI slots...
    I have updated BIOS to the latest version (1.16), and now my MB is running Coppermine Socket 370 Celeron 1.0 Ghz with Slot1-to-Socket370 converter (detects by BIOS as PIII-1000, though ),supports high-density SDRAM and HDDs 120Gb directly...

    http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/softwar...etype=software

    This BIOS update is OS-independent, i.e. should be run from floppy (make sure floppy disk is reliable).
    BIOS update is always risky and unless it is actully needed,is not recommended for unexperienced users... You can do it only at your own risk...
    Good luck!

    I also have an HP Pavilion 9680c and am trying to install Windows 2000 (computer came with win98). My hardware guru suggested updating the bios since the latest available from HP is 5/22/00 (four years old). The links on the reply do not work. They just go to HP with the same old bios drivers.

    Does anyone know where to get newer bios drivers? Does anyone know why I am having so much trouble installing windows 2000 on this HP. It is a 650 MHz PIII and should be able to be upgraded, but I get file errors with any Win2k disk even if I copy the i386 files to the HD.

    thanks

    Welcome to Windrivers mpaulson

    Please see your other thread - and please do not post the same question in more than one place, it confuses the issues.
    Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

    1. Added microcode update block for Coppermine B-0 stepping.
    CPUID = 683h. Patch ID = 0Ch.
    2. Changed Parallel Port Mode default to Normal.

    Thank you for the information, however, I think I have this bios version currently installed and I still cannot install windows 2000.
    I posted the message in two places because I am not sure what the problem is, while a friend said it was a bios thing, it could be something else that I am not aware of. Have you tried upgrading the same computer to windows 2000 successfully??

    thanks
