Used Laptop Purchasing Advice?
I have the chance to purchase a:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...name=c00009632
The computer works fine except the DVD-ROM doesn't read stuff properly. I can buy a decent external CD-drive/burner for around $80-100 (CAD). What I'm wondering is how much to offer for it. She actually paid $900 a few months ago. I don't wanna pay that obviously because the drive is broken. Consdering the price in CAD, how much would you pay for it?

Was it new? Is the drive under warranty? I'd offer her $500 for it unless the drive can be replaced under warranty, then I'd offer $550.

What I'd do is check with Dell. Find out where their laptops start pricewise in CAD and how that laptop compares to this one. personally I wouldn't pay more than 400 considering the broken drive and the cost of a decent external. Also consider that it is very possible that it is only usb 1.1 not 2.0 and therefore the external drive will be considerably slower.......

Im with theese guys $200-450 US check ebay for what one is going for then subtract $100 for the busted drive. Auction is what the market will support and apparently the market isnt supporting much. Especally this time of year.
There is one for $200 us

Well I've offered her $500 for it and she seemed receptive. I told her before it would be a solid sale I would need the serials numbers off the bottom so I could send in the info to a repair place to have the DVD-ROM replaced professional (I don't wanna mess with it) and get a price on the repair of the drive first. I told her about the rough estimate I got from the place @ $125 I told her that would hav eno problem paying her $500 for it if the repair price didn't exceed $175, but if it went any higher than that I would have to reduce the price I'd offer her accordingly. I figure $675 for the machine in working condition is a good price. Would you say I'm being unreasonable or what?
