maybe the e-machine techs are logged onto chat while doing customer support.

Well, it looks to me like EeeekkkkMachines has finally solved their tech support problem. And, just think, now MooooooMachines should be on to us, too. Looks like plenty of work for us people.

As guests that are willing to learn something you mean?
EEK Machines are something of a speciality driverwise in chat...
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

ooohhh.. Noonooo may have hit on something there. I have noticed alot more guests that are asking more technical questions that we can answer with no prob. WE should be asking Emachines for a cut.
I vote that as a service to Emachines and their customers, we actively recommend anyone who comes into the chat room to ask for a refund on their machine and buy a real pc. That should be our standard answer to all Emachine related tech support questions in the chat (at least to anyone who was sent their by emachine tech support).

Careful here.......
50% of my work comes from disgruntled e-machine buyers, could be cutting off my own nose to spite my face!

what exactly is an emachine?
I'm sorry, but what exactly is an emachine? I know it's a computer but um...what is the general opinion on them? Are they good for parts?

You will find those who swear at them, I swear BY them. We have a number of them doing various odd-jobs on our network. One is running our Backup Exec backup software, 24/7/365, backing up 48gb of data every night. Never gets rebooted except for Windows Update installations, never complains, never misses a backup. And it's a lowly Celeron 533 with 256mb RAM and Windows 2000.

And many others that spend their days swearing at them!
Emachines earned a poor reputation because of their customer service and their lack on online support. The hardware can be a problem, it is for the most part, low end. Having said that, even I have a pc chips based machine that has never given me a day's grief and is still pootling away running 98 and dos games.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

hehe - gotta love bad tech support. i've known people being sent to google by tech support at one small pc firm near me! All this for something that was on their pc anyway - my work started a similar policy, but I just refer them to blinkx instead now since it searches locally too.

We got 'googlefied' & that's why ..
Once upon a time google would only search out the front page, but with their 'page ranking systems & 'good' site links to other 'good' sites' policy that means that all or many of new topics are getting indexed - thus we get more hits, thus more folks get brave & post.
