    Post Gateway USB Problem

Hey guys, I have a Gateway Astro 400 Computer and when ever I shut down windows 98 and then turn my computer back on, I loose my keyboard and mouse. My keyboard is plugged into the rear usb port and my mouse is plugged into my keyboard's usb port. It is like the computer is not powering the usb ports for some reason, and if I restart my computer, I get my devices back. There are no power options in the BIOS setup and no support for this problem on gateway's website, any suggestions??? Thanks in advance for the help!

What processor is in that computer? Intel or AMD? In the event that it is AMD, here is what Microsoft has to say about it. A fix is downloadable from this link.

If it is Intel, let us know what speed and generation it is.

The Astro uses the Intel 810 chipset. http://www.gateway.com/support/product/astro/index.shtml I don't see any issues with USB either. Check the bios error log and see if any errors are listed there. You could try a different USB Keyboard to eliminate a bad keyboard controller. I did find a USB keyboard patch for Astro http://www.gateway.com/support/drivers/output.asp?curPlatform=Astro&curSystem=Not+Astro+Specific&curCommodity=undefined&curOS=undefined&curManufacturer=undefined&curBios=undefined& txtPartNumb=undefined
