Strange Dialog Box Comes Up on Right Mouse Click

I am running XP pro, which I just upgraded to last week.

When I select a file and do a right click on the mouse (to see, for example, what the Properties of the file are), I get the "clang" on an error message and the following dialog box comes up:

    Webdrive (in the blue bar)

Unable to load the Web Drive Windows-95 System Driver (RFFSD.VXD), Is it installed properly? It should be in your Windows system directory.

What the?? Needless to say, this file is not in the system directory.

    Any thoughts?

Doesn't seem to be much of any use on a Google search regarding this file. I would run Spybot, Ad-aware and Hijack This first off. Post the results of Hijack This before making any changes with it if you are unsure.

I am assuming that you did an upgrade rather than a fresh install of XP? That can make things messy and leave loads of unused files around as I think is the case here. vxd files are not used in XP, only W9x therefore this would seem to be a throw back to your previous install.

Did you install anything that added an option into the right-click context menu before you updated?

Well yeah I bet he did, whatever 'this' is !

Webdrive 6 ? or thats what 'my' google came up with

WebDrive gives you the ability to access, transfer and collaborate on files as easily as accessing any file on your local hard drive. And WebDrive supports secure logins and secure transfers to protect your critical information.

WebDrive is a powerful, fast and secure FTP Client. And it's the easiest file transfer and collaboration tool you can find
... except when you can't get rid of it !

So you've either got this installed (not correctly) or its 'hanging about' as emr suspects, try add/remove or if its not there we need to fathom what the registry key that's on your 'right click' that shouldn't be there is ...

Also check out the following registry key:

    \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion\Run

This key contains everything that starts up when your computer does and often contains "suspicious" entries that can activate/reinstall spyware and viruses.

As careful as I am about what I install, I still find lurkers in here from time to time.

Yes indeed, I had Webdrive 6 on my machine, and I uninstalled it.

Voila!! My mouse right click works appropriately.

    Thanks so much.

    I LOVE this forum.
