    Word 2003 - Visual Basic Run-Time Error '91'

    Hello,

Have you experienced and resolved or can you suggest resolution steps for:

    Microsoft Visual Basic
    Run-time error '91':
Object variable or With block variable not set

The above error window appears when (newly installed) Word 2003 is closed. Normal.dot has been deleted, but no change. It occurs with previously created docs, new docs and simply opening and closing Word.

This is an XP system upgraded from ME. No prior Word installation, only MS Works. (i.e. ME upgraded to XP with a clean install of Word 2003)

AVG Antivirus (free) is up to date as is ZoneAlarm (free).

    Thanks!
    SAM

Have you done the windows updates? And the office updates? or it could be the runtime installer files

    Thanks Noo Noo!

Windows Update was run 3 weeks ago. I've asked him to run it again and do your other suggestions. Will let you know...

Somehow, I just "Noo" you were going to be the first responder! Thanks!

Windows updated. Office updated. VB runtime reinstalled. No joy...

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks,

If you open word without opening a document, and close it without typing anything, does it still give you that error?

If you mean starting it and closing it without typing anything or saving the blank document created by default by normal.dot, (i.e. open Word, close Word) then, yes, it does still produce the error.

Thanks for the help, Noo Noo.

The error is not causing the user a loss of usability. I've recommended he accept it as a quirk of his system, unless he wants to go through extensive troubleshooting.

    Thanks for all the suggestions!

    Kind regards,
    SAM

I think this might be something to do with works underneath the office installation. Have you tried uninstalling it completely using ms office cleanup utility and reinstalling after a reboot?

I'll try that if he wants me to visit his home. So far, we've been doing this via email and phone. I think this might go a little above his skill set. However, I was not aware of this utility; it looks kinda nifty. I'll add it to my "eraser" toolbox.

    Thanks again, Noo!

Alas, Woolleybear, I have not. The user has accepted it as a "feature" and has not asked about it again.

    Good luck!

    Welcome to Windrivers Woolleybear

Are any of the details similar -
Did you upgrade from windows me to xp?
Did you have ms works before?

I actually corrected this issue by installing SP2 for Windows XP
