XP pro won't install
Heres my deal. I just built a new computer with a SATA drive. While waiting for my XP pro to be mailed, I tried installing XP home. It started up normally, but then it said it couldn't find a hard drive. When I got my XP pro, it would start booting, but then stops, and hangs at a black screen. I tried to install the SATA drivers from the cd, but it won't boot either. Can anyone help?

I know with MSI boards you have to load the SATA drivers during XP Install. XP right off the bat will ask if there are any 3rd party drivers and you will say yes. Then XP will ask for the disk.

You should be able to find the drivers on the CD the motherboard came with. Just copy the drivers to a floppy disk and use that during the install. I did it this way when I installed XP on my SATA drive last night and it worked perfectly.

I know that they need to be loaded during instal. However, the boot disk that I made with the seagate CD said a file was missing, which I don't remember off the top of my head. I looked on the gigabyte mobo cd, and I don't even know ehich ones I need. The only SATA driver is 1.86mb, and wont fit on a floppy.

I had a similar problem when doing a RAID install a few weeks ago. If your situation is similar, try doing what I did. The "drivers" from the manufacturer were an executable zip file that extracted multiple files. After copying the actual .inf files and a few others, it all fit on a floppy and worked just fine. Alternatively, if you actually need all the files you still might be able to fit all files on a couple of floppy disks.
Good luck with it.
