Floppy drive access when windows starts
Hi,
I have a machine running windows 98. When the desktop loads and the taskbar programs start loading the floppy drive starts going mad for about 4 - 5 seconds. I've checked the programs that are running on startup and there's no real reason why this should be happening. I have also booted the machine in safe mode and it still happens. The machine has been checked for spyware and viruses and it is clean. The floppy drive is configured correctly in the bios also.
Any comments?
Cheers
Paul

I hate when this happens. clear the recent documents list. the one that appears in the start menu. sometimes this helps.

What virus scanner are you using? Sometimes they have an option to scan the floppy either at startup or shutdown. Most offer the option to turn that off.

More likely than not someone recently opened a file from the floppy disk, and when you restart the system the MRU list is trying to poke the floppy and see if the file is still there. When you clear the MRU you clear the reference to the file on the floppy, so it doesn't check it.
