Why do you want to update your bios? Are you having some difficulty that you believe a bios update will solve? As its a laptop, I assume you are not trying to add hardware. Since the technology (P200) is mature and hasn't changed, there is no particular reason for a bios update to have been released.

The reason for BIOS update has been recommended by someone in this forum because the Digital Camera when plugged into USB it won't work. I've spent the last four weeks installing/unstalling drivers/software, clean install windows 2000 Pro again and again to no avail. no stone has been left unturned otherwise I would have given up, but What makes me persistant is, the Camera/UBS was working perfectly before I reinstalled windows. What is it that must have changed hardware system preventing Digital Camera/USB working? this is troubling because all drivers have been properly installed and I can't see any reason why this time USB just doe'nt want to work.

Can you provide some additional information:
    1. Does the usb port work with other devices and only the camera doesn't work, or does it not work at all?
    2. In device manager, do you have any yellow question marks or exclamation marks?
    3. If you open the System Information plugin (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo\msinfo32.exe), under Hardware Resources what does it show under Conflicts/Sharing and Forced Hardware?
    4. What devices do you have listed under USB Controllers? There should be two, one being the USB Root Hub and the other being the Host Controller. What is the name of the host controller? If you open the properties for the host controller, what does it show on the resources tab under resource settings and conflicting device list?
    5. What kind of digital camera and what type of storage (CF, SD, Memory Stick, etc.)? If memory stick, have you installed the sony driver? When you say the camera won't work, do you receive any type of message?
    6. Do you have any cards installed?
My thought is this - due to the age of the computer, it is not acpi compliant. If you have a lot of hardware installed, you are likely to run into resource allocation/sharing difficulties.

The camera is (Muse velo 36000 Digital Camera- No mem card type SD). As to the Computer there are no hardware/device conflicts.

At times i get the following error when the camera pc setting in camera is turned on and plugged to Laptop:
"An unknown device has exceeded the current limits of it's hub port .
    Recommendations:
Disconnect the device and then click 'Reset' to re-enable the port. If you click 'close' a reboot will be required".

To assist you identify the problem here is system information:

Don't know if it will fix the camera, but it looks like your advanced power management (APM) and infrared port are not being detected properly. Check to see if APM is enabled in bios, then proceed through the following:
To Enable NT Apm/Legacy Interface support

You can now check to see if NT Apm/Legacy Interface Support is enabled. These steps can only be done if your computer type is set to Standard PC.

Click on the "View" option at the top of the Device Manager, then put a check mark in front of "Show hidden devices" by clicking on it.
Look for the "NT Apm/Legacy Interface Support" category.
Verify that the "NT Apm/Legacy Interface Node" does not have a red "X" in front of it. A red "X" indicates that the device is not working and the properties for the NT Apm/Legacy Interface Node will indicate that "This device is disabled. (Code 22)" Power management and/or ACPI should be enabled in the system BIOS.
If the "NT Apm/Legacy Interface Node" is disabled then right click on the "NT Apm/Legacy Interface Node" and then click "Enable".
Close the Device Manager and restart the computer when prompted.
Once the system restarts, go back into the Device Manager and verify that the "NT Apm/Legacy Interface Node" is still enabled.
After doing this, check the power options tool in control panel. Go to the apm tab and click "Enable Advanced Power Management Support"

As far as the IR port, Toshiba notes the following:
    INSTALLATION ISSUES:
    Issue:
Yellow exclamations on "Toshiba FIR port Type U" in the
Device Manager. The property sheet shows a Code:29 error

    Resolution/Work Around:
Click on the resource tab and manually allocate the
    following for configuration 003:
    I/O range: 03E8-03EF, IRQ:09, I/O range: 0300-030F, DMA:05

    Corrective Action:
Upgrading the BIOS to v.6.82 will fix this problem.
Although you have bios 6.90, this device appears to exhibit this problem. You could try allocating the resources as indicated above.

Do you have this driver installed for the camera?

I have performed all recommended solutions without success. The driver which came with the camera installs under Images Device two drivers ( Dual mode Digital Camera and Dual Mode Video capture) Both with yellow explanation mark. The marks may suggest the device is'nt working properly but don't be fooled some times windows installs the device drivers properly there are no yellow marks but the camera still won't work.

1.In control panel, Scanners and cameras setting 'add' device launches scanner and camera installation wizard this wizrd will help to install....... still image device that plug and play may not have detected
    2.Select manufacturer
    3.Communication port(com1) Highlighted
    ECP Printer(LPT1)
Next Message pops up "Microsoft Digital signature affirms there is no guarantee that this software works correctly" Then Finnish. At this stage windows should have installed the device driver in Scanners or cameras properties in control panel. I can't understand why windows won't add/install the device in control panel?
